Red (Taylor’s Version) Album Review

There was something about ‘Red’ that made us fall in love with the album and form a personal connection with it (I can vouch for the Swifties on that one ;) ). “What’s past is past’’ Taylor sang nine years ago in her song ‘Begin Again’ and what a fib that was because there is more in store for the Taylor fandom and it has arrived in form of her second series of re-recordings of her original albums. Presenting to you ladies and gentlemen ‘Red’ (Taylor’s Version!) with 30 melodious tracks.

First things first: The 10 minute version of All Too Well turned out to be all that we hoped for and more. Her greatest song got even better and “we’re okay but we’re not fine at all’’. She unleashes all her anger and heartbreak into the song from hinting the age difference to how the guy fails to show up for her 21st birthday. This song has to be the best track on the album.

‘Nothing New’ would be my go-to Taylor Swift song to listen to on this album after “All Too Well”. A duet with Phoebe Bridgers about growing up with lyrics that hits a note every time “how can a person know everything at 18 but nothing at 22”.

If there is a song that describes Taylor Swift’s persona on this album it would be ‘I Bet You Think About Me’, A country duet with Chris Stapleton. She talks about her ex’s organic shoes, indie concerts and how he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. My favourite lyric from this song is “Oh my God, she’s insane, she wrote a song about me’’. The quirky music video directed by her long-time friend Blake

Lively is a must watch.

Taylor’s “Girl at Home” is an ode to girl code and women empowerment. In the song Taylor condemns a man who tries to pursue her even though he is taken. “Message in a Bottle” is a catchy track to which you can dance your heart out to. “State of Grace” is a track that hits harder than it did on the original album.

Then there are some hidden gems in this album, The Very First Night, Babe, Ronan and Come Back....Be Here are some of them and of course the re-recordings of those iconic songs which we all have been waiting for. From 22 to We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Queen Tay did not disappoint us.

At this point there is nothing Taylor Swift can’t do. She re-mastered an already iconic album and this one is bigger, deeper and casually crueler. She makes you live vicariously through her and makes you feel her heartbreak and angst when you listen to her songs. If you haven’t listened to Red (Taylor’s Version) then it is worth your time because it is her time to shine and she has just begun.
